Who we are
Bright Edits is the freelance umbrella of Jenny Bartoy. Jenny loves to make her clients and their story shine. She specializes in Manuscript Evaluation and Developmental/Line Editing of fiction and memoir.
She is a graduate of the Editing certificate program at the University of Washington where she was thoroughly trained in all aspects of editing. Eagle-eyed, curious, and thorough, she can assist you with Copy Editing and Proofreading as well.
As a writer herself, Jenny understands the sensitive nature of letting an editor touch your work. A manuscript is not unlike a baby; your editor should be a thoughtful caregiver. Her foremost concern in editing is to respect your vision and voice.
Jenny is a published writer. You can find her work in Room magazine and on the (now-defunct) blog WhipUp.net. She has published sewing articles and tutorials online as well as in the books Fat Quarters: Small Fabrics, More Than 50 Big Ideas and Never Been Stitched: 45 No-Sew & Low-Sew Projects by Lark Crafts.
Jenny's career includes a decade of project management in advertising, marketing, and film production, as well as extensive experience writing, blogging, and editing. Jenny continually improves her creative writing and editing skills through classes and personal study. She holds a master's degree in Sociocultural Anthropology from Columbia University and a bachelor's degree in Film/Communications from the University of Texas at Austin.
Jenny grew up in France and moved to Texas as a teenager. She has lived in New York City, San Francisco, Nashville, and Seattle. She currently resides in beautiful Tacoma, Washington with her husband, children, and cat. When she's not engulfed in a book, you can find her practicing yoga, engaging in a creative activity like sewing, knitting, or painting, or enjoying the Pacific Northwest with her family.
